A silver Trek bicycle was stolen from an Old Shell Road home in Mobile, and the theft was caught on a Ring doorbell camera.
A Mobile homeowner is hoping doorbell video will help track down whoever pedaled off with her bicycle over the weekend.
Surveillance footage from a home on Old Shell Road, a few blocks east of Interstate 65, shows a man walking up the driveway Sunday afternoon. Moments later, he rides away on the bike.
The woman who lives at the home shared the clip publicly to help identify the suspect. She described the stolen bicycle as a silver Trek with a black seat and a black flashlight mounted on the handlebars.
Anyone with information can pass tips along to Mobile police. Property crimes like this one are often solved when neighbors recognize people or items captured on residential cameras.
How theft is charged in Alabama
Alabama grades theft of property by the value of what was taken. Taking property worth $499 or less is fourth-degree theft, a Class A misdemeanor, while property valued from $500 to $1,499 is third-degree theft, a Class D felony.
Bicycle owners can help police return recovered bikes by writing down the frame’s serial number, which is usually stamped on the underside of the frame near the pedals.
