Mobile indie band El Cantador is set to cap off a Southeastern tour with a homecoming show at Callaghan’s Irish Social Club on Saturday, December 8, 2012, alongside Nashville folk duo Great Peacock.
New EP on This Is American Music
The show will feature songs from El Cantador’s forthcoming EP, Translation Wave, which is scheduled for release on January 29, 2013. The record marks a significant milestone for the band, as it will be co-released through This Is American Music, a respected independent label with deep roots in Southern music.
“We are damn honored to be involved with all of these fine Mobile folks and we look forward to conquering the deep South together,” representatives from This Is American Music said of the partnership.
Fools For Light Gets a Second Life
In addition to the new EP, El Cantador’s 2011 album Fools For Light is slated for re-release through the This Is American Music catalog, giving the record a wider audience and renewed distribution.
Growing Demand on the Road
The label signing comes as El Cantador has steadily built a following beyond the Mobile area. The band has scaled back local performances in part because growing demand on the touring circuit now allows them to sustain extended runs on the road for months at a time.
Great Peacock Joins the Bill
Opening the December 8 show is Great Peacock, a Nashville-based folk duo featuring Andrew Nelson and Blount Floyd. Floyd’s brother, Wess Floyd, previously performed in Mobile as part of the SouthSounds Music Festival.
Callaghan’s Irish Social Club, located in downtown Mobile, has earned a reputation as one of Alabama’s premier intimate music venues, regularly hosting rising acts before they break through to larger stages.
