FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Fairhope City Councilman Robert Brown announced at Monday night’s council meeting that he is resigning from the City Council, about five months after his term began.
Resignation effective immediately
Brown told those at the meeting that it would be his last. Council President Jack Burrell announced that the resignation was effective immediately. Brown did not give a detailed explanation for leaving.
Burrell said he had known for some months that Brown might leave the council. In closing, Burrell said he knew the announcement “is a shock to everyone.”
Replacement recommended
In announcing his resignation, Brown recommended former Councilman Jay Robinson to fill the vacant seat. Robinson was the only council member who did not seek re-election in the most recent election cycle.
Burrell spoke in support of Robinson. He did not mention any other possible replacements, including candidates who ran for City Council in the last election.
