FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Ronan McSharry was found guilty in Fairhope Municipal Court last week of public intoxication and assault and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with credit for time served.

The case

The victim in the case was Paula DiNardi. The case was postponed several times before going to trial, and DiNardi spent more than eight hours in court on the day of the proceedings.

McSharry was represented by defense attorney John Beck. City Attorney Marcus McDowell prosecuted the case for the city.

Questioning at trial

During the trial, Beck questioned DiNardi about a local consumer advocate who had been assisting her and about any involvement in or connection to the case by Fairhope Mayor Karin Wilson. DiNardi testified that the advocate was acting on her behalf. Neither the city attorney nor the municipal judge objected to the line of questioning.

Appeal expected

An appeal of the verdict is expected. A municipal court conviction in Alabama may be appealed to circuit court.
