A former Mobile-area football standout hosted a free youth football camp Saturday at Peters Park in Mobile, aiming to teach kids football fundamentals alongside lessons about faith and self-confidence.
Flip Rudolph, who played at Cottage Hill Christian Academy before continuing his college career at UAB and Jacksonville State, organized what he called the inaugural Chosen Ones Camp for boys and girls. Rudolph said the goal was to teach football fundamentals while sharing life lessons centered on faith in God and believing in oneself. The event also offered free haircuts and food for attendees.
“I feel like it was time for me to give back to the community,” Rudolph said. “You know, show love to the place that started me off as who I am. Really just, you know, seeing all the kids come out, people really supporting an event that has my name in. I’m truly grateful for that and I’m ready to give back to them and forward to them.”
Rudolph said those who were unable to attend this year should plan to come out to next year’s camp.
About Rudolph’s college stops
Both of Rudolph’s college programs play in the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision. UAB, which revived its football program in 2017 after shutting it down following the 2014 season, competes in the American Athletic Conference. Jacksonville State completed its move up to the FBS in 2023 and joined Conference USA.
