Summer may be inching toward its close, but the Alabama Gulf Coast isn’t slowing down. From beach concerts to a brand-new library, back-to-school shopping to a 1960s throwback party, there’s plenty to fill the calendar along the coastline this week.
Monday, Aug. 3 — The beach in front of The Hangout is the place to be, with live music from WB Sims and the Homies from 6 to 10 p.m. Coastal towns along the Gulf continue to offer sun-soaked days and lively evenings even as summer winds down.
Tuesday, Aug. 4 — The Foley Community Library celebrates its long-awaited grand opening from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event includes a scavenger hunt with prizes such as a Kindle Fire Plus, story times, crafts, games and demonstrations for the whole family. The library sits within walking distance of downtown Foley’s shops and restaurants, making it an easy stop before or after a stroll through town.
Wednesday, Aug. 5 — With Orange Beach city schools set to start back soon, the Orange Beach store is stocked with Mako gear for students and parents alike, including shirts, hoodies, crew sweatshirts and tumblers.
Saturday, Aug. 8 — Sandstock returns to Perdido Key from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a 1960s throwback theme, live period music, retro decor and themed food for anyone looking to channel some peace, love and hippie spirit.
Sunday, Aug. 9 — For a family meal, Mikey Seafood has been serving Gulf Shores since 1987 with seafood staples alongside beef, chicken and pasta dishes such as the island burger, fried chicken breast po-boy and all-you-can-eat catfish. Diners looking for something new can try The Steamer and Baked Oyster Bar, the latest concept from owners Eddie Spence and David Cahoon, known for steamed dishes, baked oysters, Royal Reds and crab legs.
Whether it’s a beach day, a new place to read, fresh school gear or a plate of fresh seafood, the Alabama Gulf Coast is keeping the schedule full as summer heads toward its final stretch.
