About girls flag football in Alabama
Girls flag football is a sanctioned sport of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, and its growth has been one of the bigger stories in Alabama high school athletics in recent years. Teams compete in region play during the fall, with the top teams advancing to a postseason that ends with state championship games.
This season, the AHSAA will hold all four of its flag football championship games at the University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile during the first week of December, alongside the state’s eight football title games. For teams such as Spanish Fort, Daphne, Fairhope and Alma Bryant, a deep playoff run would end close to home.
The sport has also spread to new programs in the area. Mobile Christian, for example, launched its first flag football team this fall.
