MOBILE, Ala. — Hannah Campbell threw the second perfect game of her career Wednesday, and Chloe Rathburn hit a two-run home run as No. 14 South Alabama defeated Nicholls State 2-0 at Jaguar Field.
Campbell retired all 21 batters she faced and struck out 12. She remains the only pitcher in South Alabama softball history to throw a perfect game.
Campbell’s Milestones
The win improved Campbell’s record to 6-2 this season and lowered her ERA to 0.83. It was her second shutout of the year and the 24th of her career, the most in program history. The perfect game was also the fifth no-hitter of her career.
Rathburn Provides the Offense
The game’s only runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amanda Minahan drew a walk and moved to second base on a groundout by Blair Johnson. Rathburn followed with a home run hit into a 22 mph wind to give the Jaguars a 2-0 lead.
The homer was Rathburn’s fourth of the season, tying her with catcher Alex Breeden for the team lead. Breeden nearly homered earlier in the game, but her drive was held up by the wind.
Up Next: Cowgirl Classic
South Alabama improved to 20-3 with the victory. The Jaguars travel to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend to play in the Cowgirl Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
