Halloween is here, and the Port City is packed with ways to celebrate — from food and music to drinks and costumes. Supporting these events also keeps Mobile’s independent businesses thriving. Here are some smaller and underground happenings worth a look.
Breweries and vape shops
Fairhope Brewing Company debuts a new sour ale, Wolfman, with raspberry and rhubarb, just in time for the weekend, plus food trucks and a 7 p.m. set from Sugarcane Jane. Parlor Vapes rolled out a fall flavor, Punkin — a pumpkin-spice cupcake e-liquid — for the season.
Live music and costume parties
Alchemy Tavern has a busy late October: Diamond Needle, Yesterday Tomorrow’s Hallow-Emo party, and a November show with Local H and Mobile’s Glass War. The Blind Mule’s Attic hosts local acts like Satan and The Sunbeams, plus comedy from Deep Fried Dumpster Dive. Callaghan’s Irish Social Club keeps bringing touring acts to Mobile ears, and Hayley’s hosts its annual costume party — this year’s theme is “nerds” — with a $100 bar-tab grand prize.
Beyond the bars
The Noble South transforms into Italian pop-up Il Nobili Sud for two nights. The Merry Widow’s Samhain Gathering runs late into the morning. And the Historic Mobile Preservation Society leads graveyard tours on Thursdays through the month.
