MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama freshman Jessica Lewis was named Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week, the second time she has earned the award this season. She follows teammate Mechell Daniel, last week’s honoree.
Program Firsts
Lewis and Daniel have each been honored twice, giving South Alabama four weekly conference awards this season. It is the first time in program history that South Alabama has won a weekly Sun Belt honor four times in the same season, and the first time the Jaguars have had winners in consecutive weeks.
Strong Return to Lineup
Lewis returned to the starting lineup last weekend after an injury and helped South Alabama win both of its Sun Belt matches. She totaled 26 kills, averaging 3.25 kills per set, while hitting .317. She averaged 3.44 points per set and added two blocks.
Lewis ranks second on the team with 3.0 kills per set across the 29 sets she has played this season.
Road Trip to Texas
South Alabama, coached by Amy Hendrichovsky, plays two Sun Belt road matches this weekend, at Texas-Arlington at 6:30 p.m. Friday and at Texas State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
