A Mobile County jury has found Devonta Hall, a 25-year-old Prichard man, guilty of intentional murder in the 2023 shooting death of LeCharles King, along with a charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle, Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood announced.
The jury returned its verdicts Wednesday afternoon following a trial in Mobile County Circuit Court, convicting Hall of intentional murder and of shooting into an occupied vehicle. Jurors also found Hall guilty of the lesser-included offense of reckless endangerment on a related charge.
The case stemmed from the June 18, 2023, shooting of King at the Pride Gas Station on St. Stephens Road. According to prosecutors, surveillance video showed an individual exit Hall’s vehicle with a rifle and open fire on King’s vehicle, after which Hall got out with a handgun and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. Despite being shot multiple times, King managed to run a short distance before collapsing and dying from his injuries.
“This was a deliberate and deadly act of violence with no regard for human life,” Blackwood said. “This verdict holds Devonta Hall accountable for taking LeCharles King’s life, and I hope it brings some measure of justice to his family. I am grateful to our prosecution team and investigators for their work on this case.”
The state was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Clayton Williams and Katherine Wick, Trial Coordinator Anabel Sheppard, Victim Service Officer Reagan Frost, and Mobile County District Attorney’s Office Investigators Robbie Morrow and Chief Donald Boykin. Hall is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m.
