Two Mobile County educators are being recognized for instilling the values of Scouting through their work with students. John Davis, career coach at LeFlore Magnet High School, and Kathleen Woodard, a teacher at Dodge Elementary School, were honored with the Outstanding Educator Award from the Mobile Area Council of Scouting America.
The recognition, also known as the Fretwell Award, honors educators and community leaders who demonstrate and instill the values of Scouting through their service to others. The Mobile Area Council of Scouting America presents the award to recognize individuals whose work in the community reflects the organization’s core principles.
About Scouting America
The organization long known as the Boy Scouts of America began operating under the name Scouting America in May 2025, the first name change in its history, a move its leaders said reflected a program open to both boys and girls. Its Mobile Area Council is the local council that runs Scouting programs and recognitions such as the Outstanding Educator Award in the Mobile area.
LeFlore Magnet High School, where Davis works, is part of the Mobile County Public School System and is named for John L. LeFlore, a Mobile civil rights leader.
