CHICKASAW, Ala. — A man and a woman were found dead late Thursday night in what police describe as an apparent murder-suicide in Chickasaw.
Chickasaw police and fire units responded to the 400 block of 2nd Place around 11:14 p.m. Thursday and found both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Chickasaw Police Chief Eugene “Chip” Parker.
A preliminary investigation indicates the man shot the woman before turning the gun on himself, Parker said in a statement. Mobile County EMS personnel pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the identities of the man and woman, saying only that the two knew each other. Names are typically withheld by Alabama law enforcement agencies until next of kin have been notified.
The Chickasaw Police Department and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting. Officials described it as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Chickasaw is a small city along the Mobile River just north of Mobile, with its own police department that regularly partners with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and neighboring agencies on major investigations.
No additional details, including a motive, have been released. The investigation remains open.
