MCPSS Teachers Kick Off School Year With District’s Learning Launch

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Teachers across Mobile County Public Schools opened the new school year this week with the district’s Learning Launch, a system-wide training initiative aimed at strengthening instruction ahead of students returning to class.

The Learning Launch is centered on three core ideas: clarity in teaching, the establishment of clear success criteria, and intentional lesson planning. According to MCPSS, the underlying philosophy is straightforward — when teachers are clear about where learning is headed and consistently check for understanding along the way, students respond with greater engagement, confidence and success.

Success criteria are specific descriptions of what a student should know or be able to do by the end of a lesson. Teachers typically share them with students alongside the lesson’s learning goal, so both can judge progress as the lesson unfolds.
