MOBILE, Ala. — Former South Alabama football player Paul Bennett will work out for professional scouts Friday, March 9, when he takes part in Pro Day at Troy University.
Bennett is among the first group of Jaguars to complete a college career in the young program, which began play under head coach Joey Jones in 2009. He is pursuing an opportunity in the NFL after finishing his eligibility at South Alabama.
A Durable Career
According to South Alabama’s records, Bennett missed only one game during his Jaguars career, in 2010. He finished with 18 receptions for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
Much of his contribution came as a blocker on the perimeter, where he was used to seal the edge for South Alabama’s running backs.
Honored With the No. 5 Jersey
Bennett was selected by his teammates to wear the honorary No. 5 jersey, which the program dedicates to the memory of Anthony Mostella. Mostella died after a motorcycle accident in June 2010.
The jersey is awarded to a senior who works hard on and off the field. Jones has said the player chosen for the number “earns it.”
Pro Day Opportunity
Pro Day sessions give draft-eligible players a chance to be measured, tested and evaluated by NFL scouts ahead of the league’s annual draft. Bennett will take part in the workout at Troy, the Jaguars’ fellow Sun Belt Conference member.
