The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Pensacola man in connection with the shooting death of his roommate, authorities said.

Will Victor Bryant, 31, of Pensacola, was booked into the Escambia County Jail on a homicide charge. Deputies responded to an apartment on Spanish Trail on Thursday and found a man dead from a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that the 37-year-old victim was shot by Bryant while lying in bed, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim’s name has not been released.

Officials said they are still working to determine a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. Bryant is being held without bond pending a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday, according to jail records.

In Florida, formal charges are decided by the State Attorney’s Office, which for Escambia County is the office for the First Judicial Circuit, covering Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties. Under the Florida Constitution, a capital charge such as first-degree murder can be brought only through a grand jury indictment, while most other felonies can be filed by prosecutors directly.
