South Alabama Cornerback Qudarius Ford Out Four to Six Weeks With Knee Injury

South Alabama cornerback Qudarius Ford is expected to miss four to six weeks with a knee injury suffered in Saturday's preseason practice.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama cornerback Qudarius Ford is expected to miss four to six weeks after injuring his knee during Saturday’s preseason practice, the Jaguars’ head athletic trainer said.

Head trainer Jinni Frisbey said the medical staff believes Ford injured the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Ford watched the rest of Saturday’s practice from the sideline with his knee wrapped in ice.

A Blow to the Secondary

Ford, a junior, had worked his way into the starting lineup during camp. He played in all 10 games last season as a sophomore.

A return within the projected four-to-six-week window would put him back on the field sometime in early or mid-September, during the opening weeks of the regular season.

Second Injury of Camp

Ford’s injury is the second significant one of South Alabama’s preseason camp. Wide receiver Corey Waldon had knee surgery last week and is expected to be out three to five weeks.

The Jaguars are preparing for the 2012 season, their first playing a full Sun Belt Conference schedule, under head coach Joey Jones. South Alabama opens the season against UTSA, a game that will be streamed nationally on ESPN3.

Ford’s absence will give other defensive backs additional opportunities with the first-team defense as camp continues.
