Rubit Named Sun Belt Player of the Week After Career-High 35 Points Against No. 16 Gonzaga

Augustine Rubit earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors for the sixth time after scoring a career-high 35 points against No. 16 Gonzaga.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama senior Augustine Rubit has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after a career-best scoring performance against No. 16 Gonzaga on Saturday.

It is the sixth time in his career that Rubit has received the conference’s weekly honor, the most of any player in South Alabama history.

Career Night Against the Bulldogs

Rubit finished with a career-high 35 points against Gonzaga, scoring 23 of them in the second half. He made 11 of 16 shots from the floor, hit all three of his 3-point attempts and went 10-for-10 at the free-throw line.

The three made 3-pointers were also a career high for the senior. His 35 points match the highest single-game total by a Sun Belt player so far this season.

The performance was Rubit’s first game of 30 or more points this season and the sixth of his career.

National Recognition

Rubit’s outing against Gonzaga also earned him national player of the week honors from StatSheet.com.

A Decorated Career

Rubit, a senior forward, entered the season as the Sun Belt’s Preseason Player of the Year after being named the conference’s Player of the Year a season ago. He has led the conference in rebounding in each of the past three seasons.

South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays its home games at the Mitchell Center.
