MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama right-hander Jarron Cito was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after a dominant complete-game outing against Arkansas-Little Rock at Eddie Stanky Field.
Cito struck out a career-high 11 batters in a seven-inning complete game, allowing just one hit and one unearned run. The Jaguars went on to sweep the three-game conference series from the Trojans.
A Near-Spotless Outing
Cito set the tone early, retiring eight of the first nine hitters he faced. He closed the game the same way, setting down the final 11 Arkansas-Little Rock batters in order to finish the outing.
The complete game was the second of Cito’s career and the first by a South Alabama pitcher this season. The lone run he surrendered was unearned.
Second Career Weekly Honor
The award is the second Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honor of Cito’s career. He first earned the recognition on April 30 of last season.
Cito is also the second Jaguar pitcher to collect the weekly conference award this season. Jacob Noble was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week on March 4.
