MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama junior left-hander Locke St. John was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday by the league office in New Orleans.
Seven Scoreless Innings
St. John, a 6-foot-1 native of Pell City, Ala., pitched seven innings in the opener of the Jaguars’ series against Arkansas State at Eddie Stanky Field, helping South Alabama to its second shutout of the season. He allowed three hits, struck out two and let only two Arkansas State runners reach scoring position.
First Jaguar Honoree Since 2013
St. John is the first left-hander to win the Sun Belt’s weekly pitching award this season and the first South Alabama pitcher to earn it since Jarron Cito on March 25, 2013.
He ranks second in the conference with a 2.68 ERA, is tied for fourth in fewest runs allowed with 18 and is fifth in innings pitched with 57.
