MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama’s baseball season ended at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, and senior David Doss was named an All-American. In other Jaguar news, two men’s basketball players will transfer and the football coaching staff is supporting a community blood drive.
Baseball: Two Tournament Losses End Season
South Alabama was eliminated from the Sun Belt Championship in Troy after losses to Troy, 10-4, and Louisiana-Monroe, 13-8. The Jaguars finished the season 25-30.
“It was a tough loss, I hate for our seniors to go out like this,” head coach Steve Kittrell said. “We’ve just got to regroup and get South Alabama back on top next year.”
Doss Earns All-America Honors
Doss was named a Louisville Slugger third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The four-year letterwinner hit .378 as a senior with 20 doubles, 12 home runs and 59 RBIs.
Men’s Basketball: Ross, Garner to Transfer
Head coach Ronnie Arrow announced Tuesday that guards DeAndrae Ross and C.J. Garner will leave the program and transfer.
Ross, a shooting guard, played in 27 games last season with six starts and averaged 3.8 points per game. Garner, a point guard, appeared in 28 games with 16 starts, averaging 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds with 37 assists.
“Both of these young men contributed significantly to our team development last year and helped us get to the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament,” Arrow said. “But they both decided it would be in their best interest to transfer and we wish them the best.”
Football: Staff Backs Blood Drive
Head football coach Joey Jones and his staff are partnering with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers on the Community Champions Blood Drive for Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Jones and his assistants will be at LifeSouth’s donor center at 967 Hillcrest Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to donate blood and encourage others to give.
The coaching staff has signed a football that will be given away June 27. Anyone who donates during June may enter a drawing for the ball and for a signed banner that will be displayed at South Alabama’s first football game on Sept. 5.
The Jaguars’ incoming football players have arrived on campus and are taking summer classes as they prepare for the program’s first season in the fall.
