South Alabama Baseball Adds 10 Players, Including Nine Signees, for 2014-15

South Alabama baseball coach Mark Calvi has added 10 players for 2014-15, including nine National Letter of Intent signees, with a focus on pitching and defense.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama baseball coach Mark Calvi announced Thursday that the Jaguars have added 10 players for the 2014-15 academic year, including nine who signed National Letters of Intent.

Calvi said the South Alabama baseball signees were recruited with an emphasis on pitching and defense, and that the staff is still looking to add one more hitter to the class.

Pitching-Heavy Class

Eight of the 10 additions are pitchers or pitch in addition to playing another position. Five come to South Alabama from junior or community colleges, and one, Kevin Moore Jr., is from Mobile.

The additions are:

  • Jared Barnes, catcher/infielder, Tallahassee, Fla.
  • John Barr, right-handed pitcher, Waynesboro, Pa.
  • Cameron Cochran, right-handed pitcher, Baton Rouge, La. (Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College)
  • Jason Cryar, utility player, Altamonte Springs, Fla.
  • Mike Dolloff, right-handed pitcher, Davison, Mich. (Northwest Florida State College)
  • Justin Flores, right-handed pitcher, McDonough, Ga. (Middle Georgia State)
  • Shane McKinley, left-handed pitcher, Tylertown, Miss. (Southwest Mississippi Community College)
  • Zach McMullen, left-handed pitcher/outfielder, Sarasota, Fla.
  • Kevin Moore Jr., right-handed pitcher, Mobile (Chattahoochee Valley Community College)
  • Luke Morgan, right-handed pitcher/infielder/outfielder, New Lenox, Ill.

Where They Will Play

The newcomers will join a South Alabama program that plays its home games at Eddie Stanky Field on the university’s Mobile campus. The Jaguars compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
