JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — South Alabama baseball entered the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 at No. 30 this week, and senior outfielder Nolan Earley was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
When the poll was released Monday, South Alabama was one of 11 unbeaten teams in the Top 30.
Earley Earns Weekly Honor
Earley hit .700 with three doubles and eight RBI in four games last week, scoring seven runs and drawing eight walks. It is the first time he has been named the conference’s player of the week.
Strong Start at the Plate and on the Mound
Through its first seven games, South Alabama batted .345 with 73 RBI and a .470 on-base percentage. Jaguar pitchers posted a 2.71 ERA with 78 strikeouts and 20 walks over that stretch.
Earley Delivers at Jacksonville State
Earley kept producing Tuesday night at Jacksonville State. With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the eighth inning, he hit a two-out, two-run double that gave South Alabama a 3-1 win and kept the Jaguars unbeaten at 8-0. Jacksonville State fell to 3-6.
Series Finale Wednesday
South Alabama and Jacksonville State play again Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Jaguars, in their first season under head coach Mark Calvi, compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
