Former South Alabama Star Augustine Rubit Signs First Pro Contract With Germany’s Walter Tigers Tuebingen

Augustine Rubit, the 2012-13 Sun Belt Player of the Year and the conference's career rebounding leader, signed with the Walter Tigers Tuebingen of Germany's Beko BBL.

MOBILE, Ala. — Former South Alabama men’s basketball standout Augustine Rubit has signed his first professional contract, agreeing to terms with the Walter Tigers Tuebingen of the Beko BBL, Germany’s top professional league.

Rubit is scheduled to leave for Germany on Aug. 7 to begin workouts with his new club.

A Record-Setting Jaguar Career

Rubit was a four-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection at South Alabama and was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year for the 2012-13 season. He finished his career as the leading rebounder in Sun Belt history.

He also set South Alabama school records for free throws made (550), free throws attempted (763) and double-doubles (54).

Rubit ranks among the top five in program history in several other categories:

  • Points: 1,917 (second)
  • Field goals made: 673 (fifth)
  • Field goals attempted: 1,360 (third)
  • Rebounding average: 10.0 (third)
  • Blocked shots: 139 (third)
  • Games played: 118 (tied for second)

Second Jaguar From 2013-14 Team to Turn Pro

Rubit is the second player from last season’s South Alabama roster to begin a professional career. Mychal Ammons announced in May that he was leaving school early and signed with Macedonian club Feni Industrija.

About the Walter Tigers

The Walter Tigers Tuebingen were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2005. The club’s best finish in the league is 10th place, which it reached in 2007 and again in 2013.

South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays its home games at the Mitchell Center on the university’s Mobile campus.
