South Alabama Basketball Holds Public Scrimmage Friday Before Canadian Exhibition Tour

South Alabama basketball will hold a public intrasquad scrimmage at 4 p.m. Friday at the Striplin Practice Facility before a three-game exhibition tour of Canada.

MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama basketball team will hold a public intrasquad scrimmage Friday afternoon, giving fans an early look at the Jaguars before the team leaves on a preseason exhibition tour of Canada.

The scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Striplin Practice Facility, which sits next to the Mitchell Center on the South Alabama campus.

Final Tune-Up Before Canada

Friday’s session is the final preparation for the Jaguars before their trip north. South Alabama is scheduled to play three exhibition games next week against Canadian universities.

The intrasquad format pits Jaguars against one another in a game setting, giving head coach Ronnie Arrow and his staff a chance to evaluate the roster under game conditions before the team faces outside competition in Canada.

Fans attending Friday will be able to watch the full squad in action at the team’s on-campus practice home, months before the Jaguars open their regular-season schedule at the Mitchell Center.

The tour gives the program additional game experience months before the start of the regular season. Summer exhibition trips abroad also give teams extra time together on the court during a part of the calendar when organized team activity is otherwise limited.

Looking Ahead to the Season

South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays its home games at the Mitchell Center. The Canadian games and Friday’s scrimmage are part of the team’s offseason preparation ahead of the 2012-13 campaign.

The scrimmage at the Striplin Practice Facility is open to the public.
