MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama preseason camp begins in one week, when the Jaguars report Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, to start preparation for the 2014 football season.
The camp schedule includes three scrimmages and the program’s annual Fan Day before South Alabama opens the season Sept. 6 at Kent State.
Week One
After meeting Tuesday night, the team takes the practice field Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. for a two-hour workout. That is the first of four two-hour practices in the opening week, which ends with a 3 p.m. session Sunday.
Two-a-Days and First Scrimmage
In the second week, South Alabama holds two practices on Monday and Thursday, with morning sessions at 7:15 a.m. and afternoon sessions at 4:30 p.m. The Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday practices run from 7:15 to 9:40 a.m.
The first scrimmage of camp is Saturday, Aug. 16.
Second Scrimmage and Fan Day
The team is off Sunday, Aug. 17, then practices five consecutive days beginning Monday morning. The second scrimmage is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.
Fan Day is Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Mitchell Center, beginning at 4 p.m.
Final Week
The last week of camp opens with three straight days of practice and ends with the final scrimmage Thursday, Aug. 28. The players then have two days off before shifting to a regular-season practice routine.
Season Opener
Head coach Joey Jones and the Jaguars open the season Saturday, Sept. 6, at Kent State. South Alabama plays its home opener the following Saturday, Sept. 13, against Mississippi State at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
