MOBILE, Ala. — Former South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge has signed a free-agent agreement with the Dallas Cowboys, the NFL club confirmed Wednesday when it released its official list of undrafted free-agent signings.
Word of the deal had circulated on social media over the weekend and earlier this week. Bridge, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario, went unselected in last weekend’s 2015 NFL Draft. His agreement brings him to the Cowboys’ rookie camp, scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
One Season as the Starter
In his only season as South Alabama’s starting quarterback in 2014, Bridge completed 160 of 307 passes (52 percent) for 1,927 yards and 15 touchdowns, tying the school’s single-season record for touchdown passes. He added 297 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, tied for the team lead.
Bridge led the Jaguars with 2,224 yards of total offense. He ranked ninth in the Sun Belt Conference at 202.18 passing yards per game and posted a pass efficiency rating of 115.76.
Season Highlights
Bridge was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after a game against Georgia State in which he ran for 137 yards, a school record for a quarterback, and a touchdown on 15 carries while passing for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
In a road win at Appalachian State, he threw for 339 yards, the second-highest total in school history, and three touchdowns.
His final game for South Alabama came in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, the program’s first bowl appearance. Bridge completed 20 of 37 passes for 279 yards and a touchdown and ran for 41 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown.
Place in the Record Book
Bridge played through a lingering ankle injury for much of the 2014 season. He finished his two-year South Alabama career in the top 10 of the school record book in 10 statistical categories, including third in total offense (2,792 yards), completions (189), passing yards (2,325), touchdown passes (16) and pass efficiency rating (111.83).
