Brandon Bridge Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week After Win Over Georgia State

South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors after accounting for 263 yards and all three touchdowns in a 30-27 win over Georgia State.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Jaguars to a 30-27 victory over Georgia State on Saturday.

Bridge was involved in all three South Alabama touchdowns against the Panthers, rushing for two scores and throwing for another. He finished with 263 yards of total offense, including 137 rushing yards.

Game-Winning Drive

Bridge ran for 65 yards on the Jaguars’ decisive scoring drive, which began with about five minutes remaining. His rushing on the drive carried the Jaguars to the Georgia State 20-yard line, and two plays later he threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Danny Woodson II for the winning points.

Rushing Performance Among Program’s Best

Bridge’s 137 rushing yards rank among the top single-game rushing totals by a Jaguar against a Division I opponent. The school record of 175 yards belongs to Kendall Houston, who also set his mark against Georgia State, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

First Weekly Honor

The award is Bridge’s first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor. It is the first for a South Alabama player since Jay Jones was recognized on Dec. 9, 2013, and the first for a Jaguars quarterback since Ross Metheny earned the honor on Sept. 9, 2013.

Season Statistics

Through six games, Bridge has completed 94 of 183 passes for 1,174 yards and eight touchdowns. He has added 294 rushing yards on 68 carries.

With Bridge at quarterback, the South Alabama offense is averaging more than 400 yards of total offense per game.

The Jaguars, coached by Joey Jones, compete in the Sun Belt Conference and play home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
