MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama football moved its Tuesday practice outdoors and worked between bands of rain from Isaac after the Jaguars’ season opener against Texas-San Antonio was postponed from Thursday to Saturday at 1 p.m.
The team had been scheduled to practice around 3 p.m. inside Jaguar Gym. Instead, the Jaguars held a session of about two hours on their artificial-turf practice field.
Jones Explains Schedule Change
Head coach Joey Jones said the decision was driven by the uncertain forecast for the rest of the week.
“When we got up this morning and realized we were going to play on Saturday (instead of Thursday), I said if we don’t practice outside today, we probably won’t be able to practice outside another day this week,” Jones said. “We wanted to get a good day in outside, and it was the best thing that we could do.”
Jones said the players adjusted well to the change.
“Our game plan is solid and we feel good about it,” he said. “We have a couple more days to polish things. I think it was critical that we were able to get outside though. We don’t know what’s going to happen over the next two days. So we don’t have to go three days in a row without practicing outside. Hopefully we can find an hour or two in the next couple of days to get out again.”
Broadcast Plans Unchanged
ESPN3 will still carry the rescheduled game Saturday on its online streaming service. Availability depends on a viewer’s internet provider.
