MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama Lady Jaguars made a Mitchell Center-record 14 3-pointers and placed six players in double figures in a 96-82 win over Mercer on Monday night, improving to 4-0.
The 14 3-pointers were also South Alabama’s most in a game since it set the school record of 16 at Troy in 2006. The 96 points were a season high and two shy of the Mitchell Center record.
Six in Double Figures
Jessica Starling led South Alabama with 19 points. Shaniece Brunner scored 18, Karina Sproal added 13 and Morriah Smith had 11. Cylenthia Kennon and Shakira Nettles scored 10 points each.
The Lady Jaguars shot 59 percent from the field for the game, including 71 percent in the second half.
Two Big Runs
Around the 15-minute mark of the first half, South Alabama went on a 16-2 run over five minutes to separate from Mercer. The Lady Jaguars led 47-35 at halftime.
South Alabama opened the second half with a 16-3 run over the first four minutes to go up 65-40 with more than 15 minutes remaining. Mercer got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
