South Alabama Men’s Golf Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Raleigh Regional for Second Straight Year

South Alabama men's golf received an at-large bid and the No. 9 seed at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, its second straight regional appearance.

MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama men’s golf team learned Monday that it received an at-large berth to the NCAA Raleigh Regional, marking the second consecutive season the Jaguars have qualified for an NCAA Regional.

South Alabama is the No. 9 seed in the 13-team field at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, one of six regionals that begin Thursday, May 15. The top eight seeds in the Raleigh field are ranked among the top 50 nationally in the most recent Golfstat ratings.

The Raleigh Regional Field

The regional will be played at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The teams, in order of seeding:

  • 1. Georgia Tech
  • 2. Washington
  • 3. Florida State
  • 4. Texas A&M
  • 5. Mercer
  • 6. Kentucky
  • 7. Texas Tech
  • 8. Wake Forest
  • 9. South Alabama
  • 10. Memphis
  • 11. Minnesota
  • 12. Rice
  • 13. Bethune-Cookman

Ten individuals will also compete: J.T. Poston (Western Carolina), Evan Russell (Hartford), Franco Castro (UNC Charlotte), Brandon Matthews (Temple), Richard Fountain (Davidson), Eric Brady (East Carolina), Andrew Dorn (Coastal Carolina), Ben Wheeler (Coastal Carolina), Sean Bosdosh (Maryland) and Zach Seabolt (Winthrop).

Path to the NCAA Championships

The top five teams and the top individual finishers not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

Season and Program History

South Alabama finished in the top three at six of its 12 tournaments this season and finished at or under par as a team three times.

The bid is South Alabama’s eighth all-time NCAA Regional appearance and the first time the program has qualified in back-to-back seasons since 1994 and 1995. The Jaguars compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
