Lane Hulse Leads South Alabama in Second Round; Jaguars Third at Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship

Lane Hulse shot a 1-under 71 to lead South Alabama in the second round of the Sun Belt men's golf championship, where the Jaguars sit third entering the final round.

Lane Hulse shot a 1-under-par 71 to lead South Alabama in Tuesday’s second round of the Sun Belt Conference men’s golf championship, and the Jaguars remained in third place entering Wednesday’s final round.

South Alabama posted a team score of 291 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 584. The Jaguars trail leader Georgia State by eight strokes and second-place Texas-Arlington by six.

Second-Round Scores

Hulse’s 71 was the low round for the Jaguars on Tuesday. Michael Garretson followed with an even-par 72. Hulse and Garretson had combined to shoot 9 over par in Monday’s opening round.

Tyler Klava shot a 1-over 73, and Ryan Pope improved by four strokes from his first round with a 3-over 75. Blake Kelley shot 80.

Garretson opened with two pars before a birdie on the third hole. He reached 3 under for the round with an eagle on the fifth hole and was 2 under at the turn. He also recorded birdies on the 10th and 15th holes.

Klava Tied for Third Individually

Klava continues to lead South Alabama in the individual standings at 3-under-par 141 through two rounds. He is tied for third among the 50 golfers in the individual field.

Klava was 3 over par through 12 holes Tuesday, with his only birdie to that point coming on the third hole. He finished the round with three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes.

Texas State’s Stuart Smallwood shot a second consecutive 4-under round and leads the individual race at 8 under par, four shots ahead of the rest of the field.

Final Round

The third and final round of the 54-hole championship begins at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the team and individual Sun Belt titles will be decided.
