South Alabama, Navy Agree to Cancel 2015 and 2016 Games, Keep 2013 and 2014 Dates

South Alabama and Navy have mutually agreed to drop the final two games of their four-game football series, with the 2013 and 2014 games still on the schedule.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama and Navy have mutually agreed to cancel the 2015 and 2016 games of their four-game football series, South Alabama assistant athletic director Haven Fields said.

The two schools announced the series in October 2008, a year before South Alabama played its first football game. It was set up as a four-game home-and-home series to be played from 2013 through 2016. Navy, which has agreed to join the Big East in football in 2015, is dropping several non-conference games to open dates for its conference schedule.

First Two Games Remain

The first two games of the series, in 2013 and 2014, remain on the schedule and will be played as planned. South Alabama is scheduled to play at Navy in 2013, and Navy is scheduled to visit Mobile in 2014.

Last month, Navy released a tentative 2015 non-conference schedule that did not include South Alabama. Navy currently plays football as an independent, and its move to the Big East requires it to reserve dates for league games beginning in 2015.

South Alabama’s Schedule Growth

South Alabama, coached by Joey Jones, is preparing for its first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in football and its final year of transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Jaguars play home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
