Charde Hannah Scores Twice as South Alabama Soccer Blanks Mississippi State, Then Routs Alabama A&M

Freshman Charde Hannah scored twice in a 2-0 win at Mississippi State and once more in a 6-2 win over Alabama A&M as South Alabama soccer won its fourth straight.

South Alabama’s women’s soccer team extended its winning streak to four matches over the weekend, beating Mississippi State 2-0 in Starkville, Miss., on Friday night and Alabama A&M 6-2 on Sunday.

The Jaguars improved to 6-2 and have won six of their last seven matches. Freshman Charde Hannah scored three goals over the two matches and leads the team with seven this season.

South Alabama 2, Mississippi State 0

The match was scoreless until the 71st minute, when Hannah scored on a breakaway, finishing inside the left post. She added her second goal with 12 seconds left in regulation. The goals were her fifth and sixth of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hay made six saves for South Alabama’s fifth shutout of the season. The Jaguars outshot the Bulldogs 16-14, while Mississippi State held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Mississippi State fell to 2-4.

The win was South Alabama’s third straight by shutout.

South Alabama 6, Alabama A&M 2

Alabama A&M scored in the 18th minute, the first time this season South Alabama had to come from behind. The lead held for 17 minutes until Hannah, coming off the bench, tied the match for her team-leading seventh goal.

After a 1-1 halftime score, South Alabama scored five goals in the second half. Sophie Haywood, also a reserve, scored six minutes into the half and again three minutes later for a brace.

Junior Jordan Duncan had a goal and two assists. Hannah added an assist, and freshman Rio Hardy and Alyssa Pejic also scored. The goal was the first of Pejic’s career.

South Alabama opens a five-match homestand Friday with the Jaguar Classic. Troy faces Francis Marion at 4 p.m., followed by South Alabama against North Florida at 7 p.m.
