BATON ROUGE, La. — No. 20 South Alabama softball closes its nonconference schedule Wednesday evening when it faces LSU at Tiger Park. The South Alabama softball team enters the rematch having beaten the Tigers 2-1 on Feb. 15, when LSU was ranked No. 21.
The Jaguars are 23-4 against nonconference opponents this season and 3-1 against teams from the Southeastern Conference. Wednesday’s game is the last nonconference contest on the 2014 schedule before South Alabama finishes the regular season in Sun Belt Conference play.
Pilkington Leads the Offense
Stephanie Pilkington paces the Jaguars at the plate with a .340 batting average and a team-high 48 hits. Pilkington drove in both South Alabama runs in the February win over LSU.
Amanda Minahan ranks second on the team with a .298 average and carries a .500 slugging percentage. Kaitlyn Griffith is hitting .288 and leads the team with a .441 on-base percentage. Griffith also ranks eighth nationally in hit by pitch per game.
Two Pitchers Among National Leaders
South Alabama’s pitching staff features two of the nation’s top earned run average leaders.
- Hannah Campbell: fourth in the NCAA with a 0.84 ERA, sixth in walks allowed per seven innings and ninth nationally with four saves.
- Farish Beard: seventh in the nation with a 0.99 ERA, third in hits allowed per seven innings at 3.02 and 11th in strikeouts per seven innings at 9.6.
