Softball Faces Georgia Tech in Tuscaloosa
South Alabama meets Georgia Tech at 3:30 p.m. today at the Tuscaloosa Regional in the program’s first NCAA Regional appearance. The Jaguars earned the berth by beating Louisiana-Lafayette for the Sun Belt Conference championship.
It will be the first meeting between the two schools in softball. Georgia Tech is 36-21 and won the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament with victories over Virginia, No. 19 Florida State and Virginia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are the No. 2 seed in the Tuscaloosa Regional.

Bedsole Moves to On-Field Role
Head coach Joey Jones has promoted Brendt Bedsole from director of football operations to an on-field assistant coach. The move follows the unexpected death of assistant coach Kurt Crain last month.
According to an interview on WNSP’s Morning Sports Show, Brian Turner will return to coaching the entire defensive line, defensive coordinator Bill Clark will coach the inside linebackers, and Bedsole will coach the outside linebackers.
Bedsole previously coached at Samford, Murray State and Auburn, as well as at Hoover High School, before joining the South Alabama staff.
Gibbon Graduates, Plans Transfer
Myles Gibbon, the first starting quarterback in South Alabama history, graduated Saturday and will transfer to a school closer to his home in Canada. Having earned his undergraduate degree, he has two years of eligibility remaining and can play immediately.
Gibbon threw the first touchdown pass in program history, a strike to Courtney Smith against Hargrave Military Academy.
