MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama softball team has earned an All-Academic team award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Jaguars posted a 3.32 team grade point average, which ranked 37th nationally, 12 spots higher than the program’s ranking last season.
Academic Track Record
Since the softball program began play in 2007, South Alabama has either been ranked among the top 50 teams in the NFCA’s academic rankings or had several individual players named NFCA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes.
The award follows a 2012 season in which the Jaguars won their first Sun Belt Conference championship and made the program’s first NCAA Regional appearance.
Clark Praises Players
“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and their effort in the classroom,” head coach Becky Clark said. “I think it says a lot about the kind of young ladies we have in our program for them to have had the success they did on the field, but to also have had that same success in the classroom.”
“They are truly student-athletes and they do a tremendous job representing our program and South Alabama,” Clark said.
