MOBILE, Ala. — Seven members of the South Alabama softball team have been named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, matching the program’s high for honorees since it began play in the 2007-08 season.
The Honorees
The Jaguars recognized were:
- Hannah Campbell
- Meghan Collins
- Jessica Dobson
- Kaitlyn Griffith
- Blair Johnson
- Julie Moss
- Katy Neal
The NFCA award goes to players nominated by a member coach who posted a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.
Repeat Selections
Collins has now earned the honor three times, in each of her years at South Alabama. Campbell and Moss, both juniors, have each been selected twice.
Coach Clark on the Honor
“These awards are a testament to the work ethic and focus of these young ladies,” South Alabama head coach Becky Clark said. “The amount of time and energy it takes to play a Division I sport and take care of business in the classroom is tremendous, so for these young ladies to excel the way they have is remarkable. I am extremely proud of the way they represent our program and the University of South Alabama.”
Team Academic Ranking
In October, the NFCA ranked South Alabama 37th on its 2011-12 list of NCAA Division I All-Academic Teams. That marked a 12-spot improvement from the previous year and was the best ranking in the program’s history.
South Alabama softball competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
