No. 14 South Alabama Softball Visits Nicholls State as Becky Clark Seeks 400th Win

South Alabama climbed to No. 14 in the USA Today/NFCA poll and No. 16 in the ESPN.com poll before a midweek game at Nicholls State that could bring Becky Clark her 400th win with the Jaguars.

THIBODAUX, La. — South Alabama softball takes a six-game winning streak and a new national ranking into a midweek game at Nicholls State this afternoon, with head coach Becky Clark one victory from her 400th win at South Alabama.

First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

Up Five Spots in the Polls

The Jaguars moved up to No. 14 in the USA Today/NFCA poll and No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll this week after a 5-0 week that included a 3-2 win over then-No. 17 Georgia. South Alabama was No. 19 in both polls a week ago.

South Alabama is 11-1. Its only loss came against Northwestern at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., where the Jaguars then beat host and No. 21 LSU. South Alabama played in Baton Rouge after its scheduled trip to Athens, Ga., was canceled because of weather.

Johnson Earns Weekly Honor

Junior Blair Johnson was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday. She hit .556 last week, going 10-for-18 with eight RBIs, and her two-run home run was the difference in the win over Georgia.

Clark’s Milestone

A victory over Nicholls State would give Clark her 400th win as South Alabama’s head coach. Clark is in her eighth season leading the Jaguars.
