MOBILE, Ala. — No. 23 South Alabama softball shut out No. 25 Florida State 4-0 on Wednesday evening at Jaguar Field, as Farish Beard and Hannah Campbell combined to hold the Seminoles to four hits.
The South Alabama softball team improved to 35-7 overall, while Florida State fell to 31-14. The shutout was the first against the Seminoles in 31 games.
Beard and Campbell Combine
Beard started and worked the first four innings, allowing three hits with six strikeouts and two walks to improve to 16-0 on the season. Campbell pitched the final three innings in relief, striking out four while allowing one hit and one walk. She earned her sixth save of the season, which leads the Sun Belt Conference.
It was the sixth time this season that Beard has earned the win and Campbell the save in the same game.
Fowler Reaches 200 Hits
Senior Brittany Fowler collected the 200th hit of her South Alabama career in the win. Fowler is the program’s all-time leader in hits.
Series History and Recent Form
Florida State was the second ranked opponent South Alabama has hosted this season. The Seminoles entered the game holding a 3-1 lead in the all-time series. South Alabama’s only previous win in the matchup came last season, a 3-1 decision.
The Jaguars came into the week after a 5-0 run the previous week that included shutout wins of 11-0 and 6-0 over Florida Atlantic. The series against FAU was South Alabama’s second sweep of a Sun Belt opponent this season.

South Alabama returns to conference play this weekend when it hosts North Texas for a three-game Sun Belt series at Jaguar Field. The series opens with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, and the finale is set for 11 a.m. Sunday.
