MOBILE, Ala. — A school-record 155 South Alabama student-athletes earned Sun Belt Conference academic recognition for the 2013-14 academic year, the conference office announced Thursday. The Sun Belt academic recognition honors student-athletes named to either the Commissioner’s List or the Academic Honor Roll.
Commissioner’s List and Honor Roll
South Alabama placed 84 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s List, which recognizes a grade point average of 3.5 or higher over the previous two semesters. Another 71 Jaguars were named to the Academic Honor Roll, which honors student-athletes who posted a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 over the same period.
Honorees by Sport
Ten of South Alabama’s 17 sports had at least 10 honorees. The leading programs were:
- Women’s cross country and track and field: 27
- Football: 26
- Men’s cross country and track and field: 19
- Soccer: 19
- Softball: 14
- Baseball: 13
Second in Bubas Cup Standings
South Alabama also finished second in the final 2013-14 standings for the Vic Bubas Cup, which the Sun Belt Conference awards to its top overall athletics program.
