SAN MARCOS, Texas — South Alabama visits Texas State on Thursday night for the first men’s basketball meeting between the schools, with the Jaguars trying to stay in the race for a Sun Belt Conference Tournament berth.

Jaguars Coming Off First Road Win

South Alabama enters 8-17 overall and 2-10 in Sun Belt play after beating Western Kentucky on the road for its first road victory of the season.

That win kept alive the Jaguars’ hopes of reaching the conference tournament in New Orleans. South Alabama is two games behind Troy for the eighth and final spot in the tournament field.

Bobcats Coming Off Lopsided Loss

Texas State, in its first season as a Sun Belt member, is 7-18 overall and 3-9 in the conference. The Bobcats lost their last game 68-41 to Georgia State, which leads the Sun Belt.

A South Alabama victory would pull the Jaguars even with Texas State in the conference standings with five games remaining.

Stretch Run

South Alabama, in its first season under head coach Matthew Graves, has six games left in the regular season. That closing stretch includes two games against Texas State and a home game against Troy at the Mitchell Center in Mobile.

Senior forward Augustine Rubit, the Sun Belt’s preseason Player of the Year, leads the Jaguars in the final weeks of his South Alabama career.

The game will be broadcast on 105.5 FM WNSP and streamed at WNSP.com.
