South Alabama volleyball opened the 2009 season Friday with a pair of straight-set victories at the Lady Techster Tournament in Louisiana, while the Lady Jaguars soccer team lost 8-0 at fifth-ranked Florida State.
Volleyball Starts 2-0
The Lady Jaguars swept Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 by set scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-13. South Alabama then swept Centenary 3-0, winning 25-20, 25-22 and 25-19.
The six-set day left South Alabama without a dropped set through its first two matches of the season.
The tournament continues Saturday. South Alabama faces Tennessee-Martin at 2 p.m. and host Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. Live statistics are available at usajaguars.com.
Soccer Loses at Florida State
In Tallahassee, Fla., the South Alabama soccer team fell 8-0 to No. 5 Florida State on Friday.
The loss left the Jaguars at 1-1-0 on the season.
South Alabama continues its road trip Sunday, Aug. 30, at Auburn. The match against the Tigers begins at 2 p.m.
Both South Alabama programs compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
