South Alabama volleyball won the Lady Panther Invitational without losing a set, while the soccer team lost at Georgia State and No. 12 South Carolina.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — South Alabama volleyball swept all three of its matches without dropping a set to win the Lady Panther Invitational title over the weekend, beating host Prairie View A&M in Saturday’s final match.

Volleyball Wins Lady Panther Invitational

The Jaguars opened Friday with a rematch against Nicholls State and won 3-0 by scores of 25-23, 26-24, 25-20. South Alabama had also beaten Nicholls State a week earlier at the Jaguar Classic in Mobile.

On Saturday, South Alabama defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 25-12, 25-11, 25-11, then beat Prairie View A&M 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 to claim the tournament title.

The three wins improved the Jaguars to 9-4. South Alabama opens Sun Belt Conference play at home on Friday against Florida Atlantic.

Soccer Drops Two Road Matches

South Alabama’s soccer team lost both matches on its road trip.

In Atlanta, where weather forced a change of venue and an earlier kickoff, Georgia State scored in the 41st minute to lead 1-0 at halftime and added two second-half goals for a 3-0 win.

The Jaguars then traveled to Columbia, S.C., to face No. 12 South Carolina. The unbeaten Gamecocks led 3-0 at halftime and scored three more in the second half for a 6-1 victory. South Alabama’s goal in the 85th minute was the first South Carolina had allowed this season.

The Jaguars open Sun Belt play Friday at Arkansas State.
