MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama volleyball beat Louisiana-Lafayette 3-1 on Sunday at the Jaguar Gym, improving to 6-0 at home this season and picking up its 13th win of the year.
Savannah Stewart, Melissa Waelter and Torlandria Jones each reached double figures in kills for the Jaguars.
Stewart, Waelter Lead the Attack
Stewart led South Alabama with 17 kills and added seven digs and a service ace.
Waelter had 16 kills and 18 digs for her fourth consecutive double-double and her seventh of the season.
Jones finished with 10 kills and a team-high four total blocks, one solo and three assisted.
Kananen Adds Double-Double
Senior setter Katariina Kananen posted 36 assists and 18 digs. It was her ninth double-double of the season and the 24th of her career.
Program Milestones Within Reach
South Alabama improved to 13-11 overall and 6-4 in the Sun Belt Conference. One more win would match the program’s highest victory total since the 1995 season.
The six conference wins tie the program record, matching the Jaguars’ total from the 2010 season.
The Jaguars’ 6-0 mark at home has come at the Jaguar Gym on the South Alabama campus in Mobile.
Louisiana-Lafayette fell to 14-12 overall and 5-5 in the Sun Belt. The loss ended the Ragin’ Cajuns’ four-match winning streak.
