MOBILE, Ala. — Two people were hurt early Sunday when the vehicle they were in was struck by gunfire in Mobile, police said.
Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of a vehicle occupied by an adult male and an adult female that had been hit by gunfire. Both occupants sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Mobile Police Department.
MPD says the case remains an active investigation.
Two Accounts of the Location
The available information describes the location two different ways, and readers should have both.
Police placed the call in the 50 block of Ivy Street. Reporting from the scene described the shooting as occurring off Sage Avenue. Both accounts put the time at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday and both describe a vehicle struck by gunfire in the same part of midtown Mobile.
There is no way from the material at hand to reconcile the two descriptions with certainty, so both are reported here rather than one being selected silently.
At the Scene
A sedan was left at the curb with at least four bullet holes in the windshield and the driver’s side window shattered. Police taped off a section of the street around where the car sat parked.
Neighbors described being woken by the gunfire.
“We were asleep and gun fire was so loud, it woke us up. We thought it was at our neighbor’s house,” said neighbor Jennifer Brand. “It was so loud and we came outside. We saw the police come in. So we got up and walked down here to see what was going on.”
Brand and other neighbors reported hearing roughly eight shots.

What led up to the shooting has not been established. No suspect information has been released, and police have not said whether the vehicle was targeted or struck incidentally.
The count of shots described by neighbors is a witness estimate, not a figure confirmed by investigators. The number of rounds actually fired is determined by evidence recovered at the scene, and police have not released that information.
