Two Mobile residents face charges following an armed robbery that unfolded in the parking lot of the Sam’s Club in Daphne, according to the Daphne Police Department.
Officers responded to the retail store on Tuesday, July 29, at approximately 1:15 p.m. after receiving a report of an armed robbery in progress. Investigators said the incident stemmed from a firearm sale that had been arranged online, with the buyer and seller agreeing to meet in the Sam’s Club parking lot to complete the transaction of two firearms.
Robbery Occurred During Planned Firearm Meetup
According to the Daphne Police Department news release, the victim arrived for the agreed-upon meeting only to be robbed at gunpoint. The suspects took the two firearms that had been the subject of the online sale before fleeing the scene.
Police did not release additional details about how the confrontation unfolded, but confirmed that the robbery was directly tied to the online arrangement rather than a random encounter at the busy retail location.
Two Suspects Arrested, Two Still Sought
Daphne Police identified two of the suspects as 19-year-old Travon Worsley and 19-year-old Ka’Leyce Gulley, both of Mobile. Both were taken into custody in connection with the robbery.
Authorities said two additional suspects involved in the incident have not yet been apprehended and remain the subject of an ongoing investigation. Daphne Police have not released further identifying information about the outstanding suspects.
Firearms Recovered and Returned to Victim
Police said the two firearms taken during the robbery were recovered and have since been returned to the victim.
The case highlights the risks associated with meeting strangers for private sales arranged through online marketplaces or social media, a practice authorities in Baldwin County and across the region have repeatedly urged residents to approach with caution, including choosing well-lit, public locations and, when possible, meeting at a police station’s designated safe-exchange zone.
Investigation Continues
The Daphne Police Department is continuing to investigate the robbery and is asking anyone with information about the case, including the identities or whereabouts of the two outstanding suspects, to contact the department at 251-620-0911.
