MOBILE, Ala. — Two toddlers were found wandering near a Mobile gas station Thursday morning, and now Mobile Police and the Department of Human Resources are investigating, according to authorities.
Mobile Police were called to the Shell station at the intersection of University and Old Shell Road after employees found the children unattended. The children were wearing only shirts and diapers, police said.
According to police, the children had wandered away from their grandparents’ home in a nearby neighborhood. They are in the custody of DHR until officials can speak with their parents.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources is the state agency that investigates reports of child abuse and neglect. It has an office in every county and can take children into temporary protective custody while it looks into their situation.
