All lanes of U.S. Highway 43 in north Mobile County have reopened following a crash Thursday morning that closed most of the highway for several hours.
According to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash occurred just before 7:30 a.m. near the 18 mile marker and involved two vehicles, including a commercial vehicle. The wreck initially closed all southbound lanes and the left northbound lane of the highway.
ALEA said in its initial release that the closures would remain in place “for an undetermined amount of time” while troopers investigated. Troopers were on scene throughout the morning.
By 10:27 a.m., ALEA confirmed all lanes of U.S. 43 were clear. It was not immediately confirmed whether anyone was injured in the crash.
Crashes involving commercial vehicles on rural stretches of U.S. 43 in Mobile County have periodically caused extended lane closures, given the highway’s role as a primary north-south freight and commuter route linking Mobile County to Washington County and the rest of west Alabama. ALEA troopers typically remain on scene for such crashes to document the incident and clear wreckage before reopening affected lanes.
