About the park and Museum Day

The battleship USS Alabama (BB-60) was commissioned in 1942 and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II. She was towed to Mobile in 1964, and the memorial park opened to the public in January 1965. The park also displays the World War II submarine USS Drum and a collection of military aircraft.

Museum Day is an annual event organized by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums and cultural sites across the country offer free admission to visitors who present a Museum Day ticket.
